Montpelier

In 2016, NZV’s Board moved to advance crosscutting initiatives to spark public awareness about the value of a low-carbon future of sustainable development in Vermont downtowns.

We began with the City of Montpelier, the smallest capital city in the US. The purpose of NZV’s Sustainable Montpelier Design Competition is to help the City achieve its goal to be carbon neutral by 2030.

Sustainable Montpelier 2030 Design Competition

In 2014, Montpelier made national news by declaring it would become carbon neutral by 2030. Net Zero Vermont is committed to help Montpelier advance its vision for a low carbon future and the first step was to help the community imagine what it might look like in 2030.

Montpelier is home to State and City offices, banking and insurance industries and numerous active organizations that all share the vision for low carbon living. One in particular, is NZV’s partner, the Montpelier Energy Action Committee (MEAC), who views the “Sustainable Montpelier 2030 Design Competition” as the critical step to achieving its goal to becoming a model sustainable City by 2030.
